I can't take it anymore. I love my old camera, but these nice new shiny cameras actually have things like image stabilization. It takes great pictures--as long as I use flash or hold perfectly still, which I can't do with my ADHD!

So I'm looking for a new digital camera. One that can take nice close-up shots of things such as insects but is good at things like faces in somewhat dark restaurants! Probably looking to spend about $200, max.

Any suggestions?

Edit: Got a camera! It's the Canon PowerShot A2000 IS, and I got the combo for the case/4 GB SD card (free!), and then the 10% off coupon code EMCDC10. So $160 or so with shipping for everything. SWEET.

I reallllllllly like my nikon. umm let me see if I can find the model on it...

OH Nikon COOLPIX L18. It has a macro function (although sometimes it's hard to get it to focus on the thing you want? but once you get it to focus in that mode it takes really nice/clear close up pictures). I haven't tried it too much in dark places with no flash, but the flash on it is really good so it really balances the picture c:

I think it's around 100 too! You probably want something nicer than it..but yea maybe try for a nikon of some sort? :3

OH OH. My small Canon is AWESOME at Macro pictures. Seriously. I can show you a few examples, it's not very expensive (I think a new model is out, it's the A720 IS that I have right now)!

I took this with it, as well as these: (i have way too many examples, btw XD *GOT CARRIED AWAY*)

this is in a somewhat dark restaurant, and i didn't use the flash.

Personally I'd go with a Canon for a few reasons — they all take SD cards, which are the most common ones and the cheapest ones as well. Most Canon models also take AA batteries, which if you buy lithium batteries is more advantageous than rechargeable one (unless you don't mind carrying charger + wire around, or paying 50$+ for a new battery once it stops keeping it's charge :P). My father has been a photographer as a hobby for before I was even born and he's always used Canon cameras, so I guess I'm biased but they're also my favorite. My mother has a Sony that I HATE because the pictures on it turn out really horrible D: Canon brings out colors and also their stuff lasts a lot longer (see: my current SLR camera is the one my father bought before my birth. We never sent it to get fixed, and it still works perfectly!). One disadvantage though is that my current one is a little bigger than most cameras you can find around. I'm not sure that's important to you, and I'm not sure if the newer models are smaller or not.

SORRY FOR THE HUGE COMMENT but i kind of do this every day for 8 hours now, so yeah XD I can give you advice on all the kinds of cameras and stuff.

Haha, we're currently talking on AIM and maaaan, you're making fun of my poor camera (http://www.dcresource.com/specials/PS812_vs_DX4900/) (HP Photosmart 812).

=) So I need a better camera, you say?
