Okay, I need some advice, and badly.

Is it unreasonable of me to be pissed that my roommate pulled an all-nighter after spending ALL FUCKING DAY watching anime? I wouldn't mind so damn much if I could actually GET sleep while she's working, but she often leaves and reenters the room or opens up the closet door whilst working. And I wouldn't mind that if she didn't open/close doors loudly enough that I can hear it easily through my earplugs.

And now she's going to fucking sleep all day when I need to study, and she'll probably expect me to be quiet while she sleeps 12+ hours. ... Which I can't. I need to print off stuff to study. I need to flip through my notes and book. I NEED to do well on this final, so I get a good grade in this class! (And no, I can't go study someplace else--I don't have a big enough backpack to carry all my crap, don't feel like hurting my back, and there's no room in the library, anyways.)

My roommate's done this before, too. Tuesday night she stayed up until 2am watching anime, then got up at 5am to do homework. And slept all fucking day. And last Saturday, she stayed up untii 7AM watching anime.

See. I wouldn't mind if she did this someplace else other than our room. So, y'know, I can get some sleep. (Thank you, Dia, for having the courtesy to pull all-nighters in your apartment's living room. I love you for that.) I shouldn't have to wear earplugs to get any damn sleep, and I shouldn't be kept awake when wearing them (and yes, I'm wearing them correctly--they cut out 90% of all noise).

Seriously, I love watching anime as much as the next person, but when you're obsessed enough that you cause your roommate to get an average of 4-6 hours of sleep, when she needs 7-8 hours for her ADHD medications to help AT ALL... I just think doing that is the most fucking disrespectful thing I've ever had to deal with. Okay, second-most. The roommate before her would talk loudly on the phone until 3am.

So would I be unreasonable if I told her to fucking quit it? (In a nicer way, of course.) Anime comes in third after education and letting your roommate have consistent amounts of sleep so she can actually DO WELL in her classes.

No. Your roommate qualifies as an ass. Tell 'em where to go. 'Course, you're the one who has to live with 'em. XD;

I'm going to talk to her about it, when we're both awake and not busy studying....

No, you're not out of line to tell her to stop. Some people don't realize what they're doing is bothering others until they're told they are.

My roommate told me a few weeks ago that I type really loudly, and while she doesn't care about me typing when she's awake or cares about how much light is in the room, she has trouble with it when she's trying to sleep. So whenever she goes to bed I either turn the computer off or drag it to another room.

Point of all that? I didn't know there was a problem until she told me. So I say talk to your roommate and let her know it's bothering you. She might not know what she's doing.

Yeah... I figured she might not be realizing it, but it's loud enough through my earplugs to wake me up. Even when she makes coffee during the night, it doesn't wake me....

I'm hoping to maybe rent an apartment with my brother next fall. I'm just frustrated that her and the roommate before her have no concept of noise....

I stand with Dia.

Any co-habitation is a series of compromises. You need to discuss both your schedules and try and reach some sort of workable agreement.

But the first thing to do is present the issue in a non-confrontational manner. Instead of saying "You do THIS, and it drives me crazy", you present it as "I love anime too, but I need at least 7.5 hours of sleep. Can we set a cutoff time for the TV at xxxx?"

Present it as an "I need/I feel" instead of "You" statements and you're less likely to get her hopping into a defensive mode.

*Nods.* That's the way I usually approach things... I just needed to rant about it. I'd talk to her about it right now, but she's been in bed for hours by the looks of it.....
