WHY can people understand that iced bubble tea =/= real bubble tea. AUTHENTIC BUBBLE TEA IS NOT A FROZEN SLUSHY DRINK. It is Iced Tea. Milk. And Tapoica Bubbles. The flavor of one is SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other. It's still decent, but it's like comparing grocery store sushi to restaurant grade sushi!
I wouldn't mind so much if those types of places didn't A) half-ass their blending of the drink and B) overcook their bubbles into tasteless lumps. An over-generalization, but it's an almost always accurate description. They're just catering to the "hip" crowd that doesn't know the first thing about quality.
My parents got my all excited about a new place in the mall, and they even have "Bubble Tea" in their name... and then I read how they made their "Bubble Tea". For some reason, the Iced Bubble Tea thing is one of the few things that pisses me the hell off. All these places advertise "Bubble Tea", but none of them actually have it.
Also, I think I'm still PMSing, quite possibly. But Americanization ruins all the best foods, it seems. Give me authentic any day. It's okay to have Americanized stuff on the menu, but hell, the busiest ethnic restaurants I've seen are always the most authentic (and, therefore, tasty instead of "standardized") ones.
(In other news, my hometown needs an Ethiopian restaurant. That food KICKS ASS.)

Date: 2007-12-17 12:58 am (UTC)...times like this make me glad that I hate bubble tea. I don't have to worry about that because of my hatred of tapioca.
*runs off amused*

Date: 2007-12-18 07:02 pm (UTC)There's only one place around me that makes a decent frozen version of the drink. They actually have 25 different flavors, and they make their own mix. (I suspect you'd like some of the flavors minus the bubbles, so.)
