I MEAN, SERIOUSLY, WTF.
IS OUR MILITARY EMOTIONALLY RETARDED OR WHAT?!
What part of shooting our troop's pets in the head is going to help them through the trauma they've put them through?! Are they seriously trying to raise suicide rates among those returning home? Because they're doing a damn good job of it.
Edit: Even arguing about communicable diseases doesn't work. The dog's been paid to go back home. There's enough people who will donate money so it can be checked out by a vet prior to being flown home. Shooting Ratchet is not the answer.
You might as well argue that we should be shooting Iraqi children in the head after soldiers interact with them, owing to the fact they're human and able to pass communicable diseases to our troops much more readily than a dog.
Edit 2: Update to the story can be found in the comments section of the Digg Article about it, here.

Date: 2008-10-07 07:11 pm (UTC)Um....why isn't PETA, the ASPCA or any other pro-animal organization on this?
o_O

Date: 2008-10-07 07:24 pm (UTC)Actually, the SPCA was the one who was sending the poor dog home, as they've done for other soldiers and their pets.
As for PETA, don't get me started on them....

I can't believe the military had the nerve to take that poor dog away and get that poor soldier in trouble, just because she played with a fucking dog and basically adopted him. WTF?! >:O
How does killing the dog even solve anything? It's not like he has rabies or whatnot. I mean, technically the local water and certain types of foods could make people sick more than a fucking dog could.

Date: 2008-10-07 11:18 pm (UTC):| Especially when they finally intervene after that soldier has had that dog for a LONG time and the dog was finally going to be going to civilians.
Killing the dog will solve nothing. They're just dickish enough to not care about harming their own soldiers' emotional wellbeing.

Date: 2008-10-08 12:26 am (UTC)Heh...I went though a phase as a kid when I dug activism and volunteered with PETA eons ago. The whole experience left me so,so fucking cynical,it's not even funny. I'm fairly convinced most "activists" and people who follow "isms" are all full of shit, even if it's just "to a degree".
-______-
If the dog was going to civilians, there was no fucking reason to do what they did.
My friend joined the Navy a few years back and was super-excited about it,too. Me, being a cynic pooh-poohed the idea, especially since I think Afghanistan was going on or Iraq had just begun, but she was utterly convinced it would be awesome.
She had a nervous breakdown during training and they basically isolated her away from any contact with family and friends, then deemed her "unfit", just because she stressed out once and had a damn panic attack.
I didn't say anything, but she kind of proved my point-Politics isn't fun and games and neither is the military. By going in with rose-colored glasses and refusing to believe things like this can happen(As well as the SERIOUS toll war would have taken on her psyche),she sort of fucked herself over. :-/
It's a dick move, but I never really believed any of these people gave a shit to begin with,so....

Date: 2008-10-08 03:45 am (UTC)Gaaaaaaaaaah. How could they think it was smart to isolate her from family and friends?! Especially after something like that. That's just... STUPID. :| One of my brother's friends is over in Iraq right now, and I can't imagine what he's going through... I have no idea if being in the Marines is better than the regular army, but. gaaaaah.
And there's an update to the story, now. They didn't shoot the puppy and now he's back with her, instead of heading home. :| But he also got revenge and chewed up approximately $1000 worth of air filters. XD MWUAHAHAHA, THAT IS WHAT YOU GET FOR NOT UNDERSTANDING THE PUPPY MIND, US MILITARY. :| Bored puppy = CHEWING MONSTER OF DOOM.

I don't know, but when she got desparate and close to suicide, she wrote me a letter and had someone send it to her. I was worried sick about her,but before I could mail the letter, she had been brought home. I didn't say anything, but I'm glad she never showed any interest in the military again.
I'm sorry, but it's not a game and most people have NO CLUE what they're getting into. Politics, the military, the clergy,etc... When they have dark sides, they have dark sides and very few people are willing to face that fact. I once fell for a guy studying to be a theologist and he was the most machavellian(sp?) person I've ever met. I never judged him,but I did want him to admit it instead of telling people asinine things like masturbation makes you evil and that Ted Bundy killed and raped because of masturbation and porn.
Um...no? Guys do that because they DON'T masturbate, watch porn,etc... No one said porn was moral and wholesome, but guys aren't girls, they have needs and no one should care what people do when they're alone.
This dude was so slick that for philosophy class,he convinced everyone Hitler was the new Jesus and that Jesus was the devil. He loves Jesus mind you,he just had to do that moral dichotomy thing Aristotle came up with.

Date: 2008-10-08 04:51 pm (UTC)I feel the same way about Hinduism a lot of times, which is why I don't celebrate or do anything. I went to a temple once and there were all these insane people there who acted like Amway salespeople.
>_<
Um...I'm in a temple. I shouldn't have to haggle, get ripped off and argue with people over how much money they get. What's even more disturbing is when a PRIEST does it. WTF?! >:O
If you didn't buy shit, they'd follow you and stalk you, nagging you to buy shit because it's "necessary" to worship properly.

I still believe in god,but I've become cynical, even after finding a metaphysical chapel that seemed okay. My friend found a place she likes that she swears isn't full of it,but it's in DC and my mom wouldn't have dropped me off early in the morning.

Date: 2008-10-07 11:24 pm (UTC)It needed to get more attention sooner. I can't believe how stupid our military leaders are about the emotions that their soldiers are experiencing. That, or they don't care.
